~scanning + 3d-printing~
step 1: 3d scan
chose to scan a flash drive in the shape of georgia tech's ramblin' wreck
step 2: shrink-wrap meshes
five iterations of shrink-wrapping the points clouds from the scanner in rhino at different levels of smoothing
step 2: model in rhino
3d prints of the five iterations of smoothing from least smoothed (left) to most (right)
comparisons of the original object to the highest resolution (least smoothed) 3d print
step 4: reflect
what worked well:
- super cool to experiment with rhino 8's new shrink wrap feature for the first time
- the highest resolution turned out pretty good and only lost some of the super fine details (like the GT)
what didn't :(
- the windows scanned a lil wanky bc they were black - made them super bumpy in the high res version
- probably would want to do a hybrid of smoothing for different fragments of the object in the future for best results
